CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--According to the American Optometric Association, one out of four children in the U.S. has an undiagnosed vision problem signaling a vision care crisis that is affecting students’ ability to see and learn. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control Vision recently released a report stating vision disability is the single most prevalent disabling condition among children in the United States.
This week 1,500 Chicago-area students will receive comprehensive vision exams and new eyewear free of charge at a OneSight Vision Clinic thanks to a collaboration between Combined Insurance, a leading provider of individual supplemental accident, disability, health and life insurance products, and part of the ACE Group of Companies, and OneSight, a leading charity committed to eradicating the global vision crisis by providing sustainable access to quality vision care and eyewear in underserved communities worldwide.
“We believe that by working together, we can eradicate the vision crisis in our lifetime,” said Dr. Jason Singh, O.D., and OneSight Executive Director. “We want all children to see their future and could not provide access to quality vision care without partners like Combined Insurance, whose generous grant makes it possible for these students to see and learn better.”
Since 1995, OneSight has provided eye exams and new glasses to nearly 67,000 children across Illinois through annual Clinics. During OneSight’s upcoming five-day Clinic, affiliated doctors will provide care to 300 students daily from Chicago Public Schools.
Patients will receive comprehensive eye exams and prescription glasses manufactured on site though OneSight’s production vehicle known as “EyeVan” – a complete manufacturing facility on wheels. OneSight volunteers work with local community organizations to identify and schedule students in need of vision care services before each Clinic.
Wednesday, October 23, has been designated “Combined Insurance Day” as several employees and executives will volunteer their time to help students through the exam process in partnership with OneSight volunteers and doctors.
“We are honored to support CPS students through our sponsorship of the OneSight Vision Clinic,” said Brad Bennett, president, Combined Insurance. “Our employees are thankful for the opportunity to serve their local community in such a meaningful way and look forward to helping students see their future.”
Working alongside Combined Insurance volunteers are local doctors and associates of Luxottica retail brands, including LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, Pearle Vision, Sears Optical, Target Optical and ILORI.
Note: Vision Clinic services are scheduled by community partners; walk-in appointments not available.
